Retrofit an existing CMM or Buy new CMM?

In most cases retrofit and existing CMM is the best option for the following reason:

Giving the existing CMM the performance of new CMM at fraction of the cost of new CMM
Retrofit a CMM to independent CMM software, like VDMIS, and universal digital controller will give the CMM the independence from the proprietary and expensive to maintain software and hardware that comes with the new CMM.Brand new PC with 24” HD Monitor with Windows 7 or Windows 8, 64 bit.Renishaw digital scales and reader head.

However, the purchase of new CMM could be justified if the mechanical structure of the existing CMM is damaged or its size is not enough anymore to new parts in production.
